Guide to Apple Health Integration
Getting your TrainerDay workouts to sync with Apple Health is something that comes up in our community, and I understand why - having all your fitness data in one place makes tracking your progress much easier. Right now it requires an Apple Watch for native integration or using a 3rd party product. We will improve this late in 2025 or early 2026.
Current Apple Health Support
TrainerDay does connect to Apple Health, but with some limitations that are worth understanding upfront. When you complete a workout, the app will show that you did cycling in Apple Health, but we don't currently sync detailed metrics like power, cadence, or interval-specific data directly.
To enable the basic Apple Health connection, you'll need to go into your TrainerDay settings and enable the Health setting (see above). The app will ask for permission to read data from Apple Health - make sure to grant this permission for the integration to work.
What Users Are Asking For
We know many want direct saving of workouts without requiring an Apple watch.. We are working on this.
Workarounds That Actually Work
Based on what users in our community have shared, here are the solutions that people are successfully using:
Manual Export Method: Several users have developed a workflow where they complete their workout in TrainerDay, then export the .fit file and import it into Apple Health using a third-party app. One user described their process: "doing a workout with TrainerDay on my iPad, open TrainerDay on my iPhone, select last training and export the .fit file to HealthFit to import the training in apple health."
Third-Party Sync Apps: Some users have mentioned using apps like RunGap for automatic syncing to Apple Health. However, one user noted some downsides: "it doesn't sync the power output properly to apple health which leads to HealthFit not showing vital power graphs."
HealthFit Integration: A few users have specifically requested integration with HealthFit, which they use for detailed fitness analytics. While this isn't currently available, it shows there's interest in more sophisticated health app integrations.
Weight Data Integration
Here's one area where Apple Health integration could work really well - automatic weight updates. A user mentioned using a smart scale that syncs with Apple Health and asked about importing that weight data into TrainerDay automatically. This would keep your power-to-weight calculations current without manual updates.
Looking Forward
The Apple Watch integration we're working on might help with some of these data syncing needs, though I can't make specific promises about what data will sync automatically.
For now, if comprehensive Apple Health integration is crucial for your workflow, the manual export method seems to be what users find most reliable. It takes an extra step, but you get all your detailed workout data where you want it.
When to Reach Out
If you're having trouble with the basic Apple Health connection - like the app not asking for permissions or workouts not showing up at all in Apple Health - that's something we can troubleshoot directly. The integration should at least record that you completed a cycling workout, even if it doesn't include all the detailed metrics.
The manual workarounds I've described work well for users who need their detailed power and cadence data in Apple Health right now. For automatic syncing of comprehensive workout data, that's still on our development roadmap, but I don't have a specific timeline to share.
If you're trying to set up any of these workflows and running into issues, or if you have a specific use case that isn't covered here, feel free to reach out. Sometimes there are solutions that work for particular setups that aren't immediately obvious.
